The peer support services that Macomb Family Services Inc. offers are unique. This is in the sense that they are provided by persons who have identified themselves as living with a mental illness. - This means the service participant and the provider are working together as equals. Peer providers are certified and trained in important topics such as active listening and confidentiality. - Services take place at a time (including evenings and weekends) and place (home, coffee shop, park, drop-in center, etc.) convenient for the service participant. - Peer support services focus on positive goals chosen voluntarily by the service participant. People who have worked with its certified peer specialists have chosen the following as some of their goals: Wellness - being as healthy as possible; self-advocacy - having a voice in my treatment; making friends that can be counted on; getting and keeping a job that is desirable; self-esteem - liking oneself; knowing what services, groups, and activities can be of help; and finding a place to live after spending time at Macomb Family Services Inc. and achieving health and wellness.
