Drug Threat in Beach

Sources
Drug Situation: The trafficking and use of methamphetamine is the primary concern for law enforcement and public health officials in North Dakota. At the present time, no single drug trafficking organization dominates the distribution of methamphetamine. Mexican poly-drug organizations have sources of supply in Mexico, California, and Washington, and transport methamphetamine into North Dakota via privately owned vehicles, Amtrak trains, and Greyhound buses. Smaller quantities of methamphetamine are mailed via U.S. mail and Federal Express. Mexico-based drug trafficking organizations dominate the transportation of marijuana from the Southwest Border to North Dakota. Private vehicles and commercial mail carriers are used to ship small quantities, ranging from five to ten pounds. Local cultivation of marijuana is done on a relatively small scale.

Cocaine: Cocaine is no longer the stimulant of choice; methamphetamine surpassed cocaine in that area two years ago. According to RAC Behrman, the Fargo office encounters very little cocaine today.

Heroin: Heroin distribution and use have not been a significant problem in North Dakota. Heroin trafficking is a low priority for law enforcement agencies in the city. Virtually all of the heroin encountered in North Dakota, mainly in Fargo, is black tar heroin from Mexico.

Methamphetamine: The methamphetamine threat in North Dakota is a two-pronged problem. First, quantities of meth produced by Mexican organizations based in California and Washington are transported into and distributed throughout the city. Second, meth is increasingly being produced in small laboratories, capable of producing only a few ounces at a time. Because of the extreme rural nature of the city, as well as the city's dependence on the agriculture industry, there is a high level of use and availability of anhydrous ammonia among the city's legitimate agricultural community. Farmers use "nurse tanks" to apply anhydrous ammonia in their fields. This has resulted in increased thefts of anhydrous ammonia-commonly used in the "Birch" meth manufacturing method. A DEA investigation in Grand Forks, North Dakota, resulted in the arrest of two Mexican nationals and the seizure of over ten pounds of meth. A co-conspirator in the same case was arrested for attempted murder of a police officer and possession of over seven pounds of meth. Another meth case resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of 10 assault rifles and $10,000 in cash. According to the El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC), the number of meth laboratories seized by the DEA and city and local law enforcement agencies has increased sharply over the past few years.

Club Drugs: There have been indications that “Club Drugs” are making their way into the Fargo area in small quantities.

Marijuana: The presence, of marijuana cultivated in Canada (both "B.C. Bud" and hydroponically generated) had increased dramatically. Canadian drug organizations from Vancouver and Manitoba use the wide North Dakota border with Canada to bring these types of marijuana into the United citys; the bulk of the marijuana is destined to areas outside North Dakota.

Other Drugs: There is no significant diversion of legitimate drugs to report.

DEA Mobile Enforcement Teams: This cooperative program with city and local law enforcement counterparts was conceived in 1995 in response to the overwhelming problem of drug-related violent crime in towns and cities across the nation. There have been 409 deployments completed resulting in 16,763 arrests of violent drug criminals as of February 2004. There have been no MET deployments in the city of North Dakota.

DEA Regional Enforcement Teams: This program was designed to augment existing DEA division resources by targeting drug organizations operating in the United citys where there is a lack of sufficient local drug law enforcement. This Program was conceived in 1999 in response to the threat posed by drug trafficking organizations that have established networks of cells to conduct drug trafficking operations in smaller, non-traditional trafficking locations in the United citys. Nationwide, there have been 22 deployments completed resulting in 608 arrests of drug trafficking criminals as of February 2004. There have been no RET deployments in the city of North Dakota.

Special Topics: Currently, there are six Task Force Officers, representing five law enforcement agencies, assigned to the DEA in North Dakota. North Dakota is covered by the Midwest High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), along with Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota. The Midwest HIDTA has established four initiatives in North Dakota: Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Bismarck, Fargo (DEA Task Force), and Grand Forks. The Midwest HIDTA initially was created to concentrate on fighting the overwhelming increase in the manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine. Accordingly, Midwest HIDTA funds were restricted to methamphetamine investigations. In 2001, this stipulation was lifted, allowing law enforcement agencies to investigate poly-drug trafficking groups.

Drug rehab is a vital part of recovery from drug addiction. Drug rehabilitation has several phases, many facets, and is often a long term process. When an individual enters into a drug rehab program they will go through detoxification. This is the first step on the road to recovery but is by no means the one and only step in the process. A recovering individual needs to learn many new tools to help them re-enter society clean and without the urge to use drugs when difficult situations arise. There are many tricky circumstances a recovering individual will find themselves in once they have left drug rehab. These new tools will help them handle these difficult situations such as running into an old using buddy, finding themselves in past using environments, or even smells and objects that remind them of their using past. All of these and many more are known as psychological stressors. Often, these can hamper an individual’s ability of achieving a complete recovery from drug addiction. However if the individual knows how to address these difficult situations before they leave drug rehab then they have a much greater chance of successfully recovering from drug addiction.

In the beginning, many individuals feel that they can put an end to their drug addiction on their own. This is not usually the case. Self detoxification often does not last very long before the individual breaks down and uses again. Through research, it has been shown that long term drug addiction creates substantial changes in the way the user’s brain functions. These changes continue long after the user has discontinued using drugs. With this in mind, it is important to realize that more than just strong will power is needed to conquer drug addiction. A drug rehab will help the individual with drug cravings, re-stimulation from their past, as well as address the changes in the way their brain functions.

Drug Rehab, Beach, North Dakota, ND

The ultimate goal of a drug rehab in Beach is to enable the individual to achieve lasting abstinence from drug use. The short term goal of a drug rehab in Beach is to help the individual through detox and withdrawal from drugs in addition to improving their ability to function in society again. A drug rehab will help minimize the medical and social complications of drug abuse.

Patients who stay in a Beach drug rehab longer than 3 months typically have better outcomes than those who stay less time. Those who go through medically assisted withdrawal to minimize discomfort but do not receive any further rehab, perform about the same in terms of their substance use as those who never attended a drug rehab in Beach. Over the last 25 years, studies have shown that attending a Beach drug rehab works to reduce drug intake and crimes committed by drug-dependent people. Researchers also have found that drug abusers who have been through a drug rehab are more likely to have jobs.

Inpatient Drug Rehab, Beach, North Dakota, ND

Inpatient drug rehab in Beach is one of many methods whose ultimate goal is long-term abstinence from drugs and alcohol. Those who attend an inpatient drug rehab in Beach use the new tools they have learned to help them re-enter society and lead responsible, successful drug and alcohol free lives.

Inpatient drug rehab centers in Beach offer support and structure for men and women seeking help for problems with drugs or alcohol. Participants reside on location for the course of the rehab program; lengths of stay vary and may be individualized. Care at an inpatient drug rehab in Beach is provided 24 hours a day 7 days a week; this is only one of the benefits of attending a inpatient drug rehab.

Outpatient Drug Rehab, Beach, North Dakota, ND

An outpatient drug rehab in Beach is a program designed to provide long-term abstinence from drugs and alcohol. Outpatient drug rehab programs in Beach use a broad verity of techniques. These techniques include a wide range of approaches including problem-solving groups, specialized therapies such as insight-oriented psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and 12-step programs. Similar to other drug rehabs, the individual may stay in the program for several months or longer. Those who attend an outpatient drug rehab in Beach do not live at the drug rehab as they would an inpatient drug rehab.

Outpatient drug rehab programs in Beach vary in the types and intensity of services offered. Low-intensity outpatient drug rehab programs may offer little more than drug education and counsel. Other outpatient drug rehab models, such as intensive day treatment, can be comparable to residential programs in services and effectiveness, depending on the individual's characteristics and needs. All in all, the ultimate goal of an outpatient drug rehab in Beach is to help the individual recover from drug addiction so that they may re-enter society and lead responsible, successful drug and alcohol free lives.

Alcohol Rehab, Beach, North Dakota, ND

Alcohol rehab in Beach is a place where an individual who has a drinking problem can receive help. Rehab is a program that helps the individual with their alcohol addiction and provides them with the tools necessary for a complete recovery.

Alcohol rehab in Beach works for many people who have problems with alcohol abuse. But just like any other drug of abuse, the individual has to be committed to make a change for the better. Some people stop drinking and remain sober. Others have long periods of sobriety with bouts of relapse. And still others cannot stop drinking for any length of time. With alcohol rehab, one thing is clear: the longer a person abstains from alcohol, the more likely he or she will be able to stay sober.

Drug Detox, Beach, North Dakota, ND

The goal of detox in Beach is to rid the body of toxins accumulated by drug use. The first step of detox is drug withdrawal. Drug withdrawal is "the act or process of ceasing to use an addictive drug." Once an individual has discontinued using drugs physical and behavioral withdrawal symptoms may follow. Detox in Beach is a process that helps diminish the uncomfortable symptoms of drug withdrawal.

Detox is performed in many different ways depending on where you decide to receive treatment. Most detox centers in Beach simply provide treatment to avoid physical withdrawal to alcohol & other drugs. A quality detox program will not only to provide the individual with counseling during detox but help with the physical withdrawal and the psychological root cause of the individual's addiction problem, so as to decrease the chances of relapse.

Drug detox can be viewed in three separate stages:

1. Medical Detox: A medical doctor will need to supervise your medical withdrawal from drugs, ensuring you complete this phase safely and with minimal complications. Medical detox can take several days.

2. Physical Detox: Once your body is no longer dependent on drugs, you will need to work on building up your physical health. A nutritionist can be helpful during this phase, enabling you to develop a balanced diet to help you through the rest of the detox process.

3. Emotional Detox: Detox can be extremely difficult on your emotional health, which is why most treatment centers offer counseling during detox. Because drugs have become an integral part of your mental, emotional and social life, you will need emotional help as you detox.

Drug Situation: In North Dakota the primary concern for law enforcement and public health officials is the trafficking and use of methamphetamine. Currently, no single drug trafficking organizations dominates the distribution of meth.

Heroin: The use and distribution of heroin has not been a significant problem in North Dakota. Virtually all of the heroin encountered in North Dakota, mainly in Fargo, is black tar heroin from Mexico.

Club Drugs: The threat of "Club Drugs" is extremely mild in North Dakota; indications have shown though that they are making their way into the Fargo area in small quantities.

Marijuana: Marijuana is one of the primary drugs of choice in North Dakota. Most of North Dakota's marijuana is supplied by Mexican drug organizations. There are a limited amount of individuals who cultivate their own marijuana crops.
