How Short Term Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs Work

When you decide on short-term alcohol and drug rehabilitation, you will be presented with counseling and therapy - including group therapy, family counseling, and individual counseling. In most cases, the different short-term treatment programs offer their patients access to various forms of addiction treatment depending on the assessment they received during check-in.

Short-term treatment programs might teach you various life and coping skills to ensure that you can deal with your addiction and lead a drug and/or alcohol free life.

CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), in particular, works well when provided to individuals in a short-term treatment program - which is why so many of these programs use it to help clients achieve long lasting recovery.

NIDA also states that many short-term drug rehabilitation programs also use customized 12 step approaches to addiction treatment. Through these peer-based support modules, you should be able to access and benefit from the structure, optimism, hope, enthusiasm, and responsibility offered by other recovering addicts - which can end up being effective especially when you are new to a program.

Other facilities also adapt their therapy to the growing need for addiction rehabilitation. As such, you might benefit from the intensive care that they offer over shorter time periods.
