Blue Valley Behavioral Health (BVBH) is a private nonprofit organization that provides outpatient behavioral health services in 12 offices throughout 16 mostly rural counties in Southeast Nebraska. BVBH was established in 1968 and incorporated in 1970, in response to an area-wide interest in bringing mental health and substance abuse services to the local communities. BVBH has a strong history of continuous development and growth that serves approximately 5,000 adults and youth every year. Outpatient Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Medication Management and Community Support Services can be obtained at an office near you. Substance abuse services are provided on an individual, family, and/or group setting. Clients, or others affected by substance abuse, seek or are referred for these services when their functioning is negatively impacted by the abuse of alcohol and/or other drugs and is causing problems in different areas of their lives ( financial, health, legal, emotional, family, etc). Clients may be seen for addiction and abuse problems related to alcohol and drugs including marijuana, methamphetamine, and prescription medication. Clients and if appropriate, family members, develop knowledge and skills for making lifestyle changes necessary to maintain abstinence from alcohol and other drugs. Clients may be referred by themselves, family, attorneys, court system, probation/parole officers or another provider. During the first session, a thorough evaluation is completed which may take up to 2 hours. General background and other relevant information are gathered by the counselor and the client's history and current use of alcohol and other drugs are assessed. As problems are identified, the appropriate treatment program (level of care) is determined. At subsequent sessions, individual goals are developed by the client and counselor and treatment focusing on the identified problems occurs.
