Impaired Driving BAC Levels in Wisconsin

In Wisconsin, the term OWI (operating a vehicle while intoxicated) is the same as a DUI (driving under the influence). Blood Alcohol Levels (BAC levels) which can result in arrest and other penalties can vary on a few factors such as age and circumstances. If you are under 21 years of age, the legal drinking age in the state, the level is .02%. If you are 21 or older, the level is the standard .08%, unless you are a commercial driver where the level is much lower at .04%. If you are pulled over and refuse to take a test to determine BAC level, there are severe penalties which law enforcement officials will enforce as follows: 1st offense - 1 year license revocation, 2nd offense - 2 year license revocation, 3rd offense - 2 year license revocation. This may also include jail time.

If found guilty of having too high of a BAC level, OWI, you can be fined up to $1,100 depending on how many OWI offenses you have, serve jail time and/or have your license suspended or revoked. You may also have your vehicle immobilized or be forced to have an ignition interlock device installed.
